The 2022 and 2023 Progress Report provides a snapshot of the progress made to date toward expanding Nunavut's housing continuum. As of December 31, 2023, 541 new housing units were started or completed in 2022 and 2023.

The lack of affordable options outside of public and staff housing is a challenge for Nunavut. The Nunavut Affordable Housing Supply Incentive (NAHSI) was created to support the growth of the affordable housing sector. The goal: expand the range of housing options available to Nunavummiut, specifically affordable market housing.

Through its Homeownership Programs and supports, the NHC assists residents who can afford the costs of homeownership to secure and maintain their house. These services include consultations regarding purchase of existing homes or new home construction, repairs, renovations, bank financing and energy conservation.

Nunavut 3000 will create more housing for Nunavummiut by developing partnerships and investing in innovative construction methods that increase efficiency and decrease costs.

Our local partners are responsible for the complete care of the Public Housing portfolio, from unit allocations, to rental assessments and collections, to maintenance and repairs. As well, they perform most of the day-to-day duties associated with program delivery to individuals and families.
