New modular homes to arrive in Kivalliq region through Agnico Eagle Mines partnership

Iqaluit, Nunavut (April 10, 2025) – Nunavut’s housing supply in the Kivalliq region will grow by approximately 20 modular housing units this year through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at the Nunavut Mining Symposium in Iqaluit today between Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (Agnico Eagle).
Through this MOU, Agnico Eagle will provide the marine shipping for approximately 20 new modular housing units in support of accelerating housing supply for Nunavummiut. NHC will be responsible for purchasing the modular units and the placement of units once they arrive in the communities.
“This beneficial partnership with Agnico Eagle represents our shared commitment to economic development and healthy communities that results in lasting benefits for Nunavummiut,” said Lorne Kusugak, Minister Responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation. “Through Agnico Eagle’s generous in-kind support, approximately 20 new housing units will be delivered to Rankin Inlet and Baker Lake, and more importantly, 20 Kivalliq families will have a new place to call home.”
“Agnico Eagle is pleased to combine its resources and expertise with NHC to address critical housing needs through Nunavut 3000,” said Christopher Adams, Vice President, Nunavut, Agnico Eagle. “We are deeply committed to the well-being and shared opportunity we create together with our host communities and Indigenous partners, seeking a holistic approach where economic development leads to stronger communities.“
